LEGOLAND Beach RetreatWhen it opens next year, LEGOLAND® Beach Retreat will offer a great new way for families and friends to stay and play at LEGOLAND Florida Resort. The all-new accommodations combine the fun of surf and sand with the creativity of LEGO® building sets while offering beautiful views of Lake Dexter from nearly every sun-kissed corner.

Today, with construction moving right along, we’re giving a sneak peek at the awesome LEGO décor that awaits guests in each of the 83 beach-themed bungalows, which offer 166 separate accommodations that sleep up to five. There’s even a cozy area designed just for kids. Check it out in the latest episode of LEGOLAND Florida Resort TV:

The village-style resort was announced in March, less than a year after the May 2015 debut of the popular LEGOLAND Hotel, a five-story tower with 152 LEGO themed rooms and suites. With the opening of LEGOLAND Beach Retreat next year, we’ll be the first LEGOLAND resort in North America to offer two highly immersive resorts with LEGO theming inside and out.

2016.08.12_LEGOLANDFLORIDA_LBR_034Designed with the same mix of imagination and kid-centric detail that made the LEGOLAND Hotel an immediate hit, LEGOLAND Beach Retreat invites guests to relax in an oasis of endless outdoor fun. Kids can slide, swing, jump and climb at one of many outdoor play areas, and each candy-colored bungalow will include a shaded patio where parents can put their feet up, kick back and relax.

LEGOLAND Beach RetreatA short stroll away, a themed swimming pool will offer hours of fun in the sun alongside a giant sandy play area. A central clubhouse topped by a LEGO lighthouse will feature a buffet restaurant, pool bar and a beach-themed space where kids can build with LEGO bricks and proudly display their creations.

Plus, LEGOLAND Beach Retreat guests will enjoy a breakfast buffet every morning of their stay and early access to the theme park. More amenities and room rates will be announced soon, along with a new check-in service that will make vacationing at LEGOLAND Florida Resort as carefree as a day at the beach.

Meet the team bringing #BrickPony to life

Can you believe there are people who get paid to build things out of LEGO® bricks?

Believe it. LEGO Master Model Builders Pete, Dave, Colin, Greg, Nate, Sam and TJ are currently assembling the life-size replica of the “1964½” Ford Mustang at the U.S. headquarters of The LEGO Group in Enfield, Conn. Here’s an exclusive peek at the team inside the model shop:

#BrickPony

The team of veteran Master Model Builders creating #BrickPony have more than three decades of experience building dazzling models out of millions of LEGO bricks.

Led by Pete, a LEGO veteran, Team #BrickPony is making swift, brick-by-brick progress on the giant model, which is set to arrive at LEGOLAND® Florida Resort this fall, where it will go on permanent display outside the Ford Driving School attraction sponsored by Southern Ford Dealers. Altogether, the talented team has more than 30 years of building experience — that’s a lot of bricks!

#BrickPony

Designed by LEGO Master Model Builders using special software, the giant model is assembled from the bottom up in layers, just like an ordinary LEGO set. Large DUPLO® bricks are used for support in the model’s unseen interior.

According to Dale, the build’s senior project manager, while creating a LEGO car may not resemble the way they’re built in Detroit, the process is remarkably similar to assembling a typical LEGO set.

“We are building it like you would at home — one brick and one layer at a time, starting from the bottom,” he said.

#BrickPony

LEGO Master Model Builder Sam is part of the seven-person team building the life-size Ford Mustang brick by brick, layer by layer.

Check out Sam, shown here working on layer No. 63 out of the 165 layers it will take to create the Mustang. When complete, the finished model will measure more than 15 feet long, nearly 6 feet wide and more than 4 feet tall.

How many LEGO bricks will it take to build this American classic? We’re not saying — yet. Leave a reply with your best guess!

Less than three weeks remain before #BrickPony debuts at a special four-day event in Indianapolis. You can follow its travels here on our blog and on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Help us ‘fill the bus’ Aug. 19-21 with school supplies for Polk County students

It’s back-to-school time for local students, but not every child begins the year with the items they need to succeed. This month, we’re asking brick fans to help us support our community by donating school supplies.

IMG_8049Items will be distributed to elementary and middle-school students in the Polk County School Board’s homeless education program.  The HEARTH Project and Polk County Public Schools work to ensure that homeless children throughout the county have equal opportunities for educational success.

On Aug. 19-21 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., LEGOLAND® Model Citizens will accept donations at one of our colorfully decorated shuttle buses near the archway as you enter the park. Help us “fill the bus” with items for needy students!

All supplies are welcome, but these are the items needed most:

Built for safety, local firefighters celebrate the arrival of new fire engines

On this #FirefighterFriday, the Winter Haven Fire Department stopped by the LEGOLAND Hotel to capture a colorful photo of its brand new, custom designed pumper.  The firefighters were all smiles as they posed in front of the new truck which they say is sure to improve service and increase safety for the firefighters.

Chris Humphrey, Assistant Fire Chief of Winter Haven Fire Department tells us the hotel was the perfect backdrop as they prepare to share this great news with the local community. “When you ask firefighters which toys were their favorite as a kid, most will pick firetrucks and LEGO.  How fortunate we are to have both of our favorites in our backyard.  We are very excited to present our new apparatus at LEGOLAND Florida Resort.”

The new truck will replace two pumpers that have been in service for 18 years.  They can pump 1,250 gallons per minute and carry 500 gallons of water!  Firefighters tell us they are most excited about the new look and spacious feel of the new engines.

Taste the possibilities at Firehouse Ice Cream

Since signed into law by presidential proclamation in 1984, Americans have celebrated National Ice Cream Month every July and National Ice Cream Day on the third Sunday in July. (That’s July 17 this year.)

This year, why not celebrate with a scoop, cup, cone or sundae at one of the many locations serving ice cream at LEGOLAND® Florida Resort?

The awesome new Firehouse Ice Cream in LEGO City has a terrific menu of delicious choices, including eight flavors of Breyers ice cream, 15 different toppings and four sauces, plus two signature sundaes. Yum!

2015.06.26_LEGOLANDFLORIDA_HEATLAKE_0152The ultimate indulgence, the Rescue Squad Sundae, is made with a choice of a chocolate chip cookie or brownie, four scoops of ice cream, two sauces, two toppings, whipped cream and served in a souvenir bowl.

That got us thinking — how many different ways are there to create that sundae? To figure out the total number of possibilities, we turned to our resident math whiz and number cruncher, Ken. Here’s the answer:RescueSquadSundaeInfographicB

Pokémon spotted at LEGOLAND Florida Resort

The tremendously popular new app Pokémon GO has kids seeking to “catch ‘em all” all across our resort!  Guests are welcome to play during their visit, but we’ve issued a few ground rules to ensure a safe search.

IMG_1247

Pokémon caught posing with Emmet and Wyldstyle.

Rules for a safe Pokémon GO quest at LEGOLAND Florida Resort:

  • Even a Pokémon Master must stay within guest areas. Please don’t climb any fences or follow any Pokémon into employee-only areas.
  • No catch is worth sacrificing your safety. All play must pause throughout the duration of your ride until you exit the ride.
  • Be sure not to bump into one of our more than 28,000 LEGO® models – that could hurt!
  • With more than 100 Pokémon to catch, be sure to stay hydrated.
  • If you find a Pokémon at the Fun Town Pizza Pasta Buffet, let the nearest Model Citizen know, we prefer pepperoni over Poké Balls.
  • If hours of play have unleashed the power of your phone, recharge in the Imagination Zone.
  • If your wild encounter leads you to Wyldstyle, keep in mind she may need to stop for a selfie with another guest before you can make your catch.
