LEGOLAND® Florida Resort donates design and decor for kids play area at Patrick Air Force Base

Imagination takes flight in an all-new, interactive play area designed by LEGOLAND® Florida Resort for the children of Patrick Air Force Base personnel, a whimsical space created in partnership between the Polk County vacation destination and the U.S. military facility in Brevard County.

Scheduled to debut June 1, the new “Imagination Station” gives kids a fun, engaging place to play while parents visit the base’s Information, Tickets & Travel (ITT) office, part of the military’s Morale, Welfare and Recreation services for enlisted men and women and their families. LEGOLAND Model Citizens worked with the base to transform a formerly plain space into a colorful celebration of play and creativity, donating all labor and materials.

Décor includes floor-to-ceiling LEGOLAND graphics and photos, wall-mounted LEGO® baseplates and bins with thousands of loose LEGO bricks so kids can build and display whatever they imagine. Also featured is a LEGO replica of the theme park’s iconic entrance arch, designed and assembled by Master Model Builders.

Home of the 45th Space Wing, the veteran Air Force installation near Florida’s Cocoa Beach hosts more than 13,000 military, dependents, civilian employees and contractors on base. The Information, Tickets & Travel office assists service members with leisure travel arrangements and discounted tickets to popular Central Florida attractions, including LEGOLAND Florida Resort.

Military Discounts at the Place #BuiltForKids

All year long, active-duty U.S. service members receive complimentary admission to LEGOLAND Florida Theme Park and LEGOLAND Water Park, with no restrictions or block-out dates. Not available online, by phone or through ticket resellers, this offer is available only at the resort’s ticket windows to those with valid military ID.

For guests of service members, deeply discounted tickets are available at all U.S. military base ITT offices, and they include a second day’s admission free. They also can visit to verify their eligibility online and receive a 25 percent discount on tickets, which include a second day’s admission free. Military personnel without access to a base ticketing office receive 10 percent off up to six one- and two-day tickets at the ticket windows.

U.S. service members can visit the website’s Military Discounts section to save 10 percent on stays at LEGOLAND Hotel and the all-new LEGOLAND Beach Retreat, subject to availability. Valid military ID is required at check-in.

LEGOLAND® Florida Resort’s #BrickPony leaves tread marks from Connecticut to Florida

Quick: Name something that united Ford Mustang fans, LEGO® fans, football fans, Florida vacationers and bloggers over the past four weeks.

Give up? It’s #BrickPony, LEGOLAND® Florida Resort’s 1:1 replica of the so-called “1964½” Ford Mustang V8 coupe, which has been traveling from Connecticut to Indiana to Florida on the way to its permanent home at the theme park #BuiltForKids.brickpony_13

Sponsored by Southern Ford Dealers and created brick by brick by a team of Master Builders at LEGO Systems, Inc., in Enfield, Conn., the giant model was finished in late August and soon loaded into a colorfully decorated trailer for its debut in Indianapolis.

There, Mustang Club of America hosted its 40th anniversary event at Indianapolis Motor Speedway Sept. 1-4, where thousands of Mustang owners and enthusiasts from around the world celebrated their mutual love for the American classic. Original Mustang designer Gale Halderman and racing legend Richard Petty stopped by to marvel at the precise re-creation, and both added their autographs to the model.galehalderman_autograph_01richardpetty_autograph_01

Next, she headed back to Enfield to receive a special UV coating to protect her 194,900-LEGO brick body from Florida’s abundant sunshine. Then it was southbound to the Sunshine State.

Orlando, Fla., was stop No. 2 on the #BrickPony tour. On Sept. 22, this more-than-one-trick pony amused visitors at the popular I-Drive 360 entertainment complex with a few fun surprises built into its trunk. Come back to our blog soon to see what happened next!

Two days later, #BrickPony showed up in dozens of tweets and Instagram photos as bloggers snapped selfies during the fourth FLBlogCon at Full Sail University in Winter Park, Fla. The next day, Sept. 25, thousands of football fans arriving to see the Tampa Bay Buccaneers face off against the Los Angeles Rams saw #BrickPony parked outside Tampa’s Raymond James Stadium.img_0122

What’s next? Come see her in her new home at LEGOLAND Florida Resort outside the Ford Driving School attraction starting Saturday, Oct. 1! We’ll have a full recap of the special “homecoming” ceremony here on the blog next week.
