‘Our whole family had a blast!’

LEGO NINJAGO World

Mike, Cameron, Faith and Melissa Allen pose with a giant, brick-built model of LEGO NINJAGO® star Kai outside the site of the new LEGO NINJAGO World theme park land opening in early 2017.

Last week, the Allen family from Michigan enjoyed their Grand Prize from the #BrickOrTreatContest we sponsored with HLN’s “Morning Express with Robin Meade” cable news show several months ago. Making their second visit to LEGOLAND® Florida Resort, dad Mike, mom Melissa, 12-year-old Cameron and 11-year-old Faith got to enjoy all the new fun added since their last trip, including the all-new LEGOLAND Hotel.

Here’s what Cameron had to say about it:

Our whole family had a blast at LEGOLAND Florida Resort! From the moment we stepped off the plane and saw a chauffeur with our name on an iPad, we had a lot of fun. The hotel was awesome!!  The rooms were so detailed and cool! We were in a Kingdoms room, and there was a bag of LEGO® items just waiting on the bed for us! We also got to open a treasure chest in the room with more LEGO surprises!

We were able to meet with the Master Model Builders and WOW, that was so cool to see how things are put together for the park and how they store all of the LEGO pieces.

LEGO prizes

Faith and Cameron were delighted to find a bag filled with LEGO items waiting for them in their hotel room, part of the #BrickOrTreatContest Grand Prize.

There was a LEGO building contest the first night there (which I actually ended up winning) and we met some new friends from Flushing, Mich., and hung out with them all night and then went to the water park with them the next day. The first slides Fischer, Holden, Faith and I went on were the Splash Out and they were a blast!

Project X

Cameron, left, called Project X in the LEGO Technic area his favorite among the park’s themed roller coasters.

“The LEGO Movie™ 4D A New Adventure” was also really cool — there was a lot of water being sprayed at us! All of the coasters were awesome!  My favorite ride in the park was Project X — it was so much fun!  I really enjoyed going into the LEGO stores and trading minifigs with all of the Model Citizens.  We had an amazing time and cannot wait until we go back again.

Thanks again!!!

Everything was, well, awesome!

Sage Stuchell

LEGO fan Sage Stuchell, 10, was one of three Grand Prize winners of last fall’s #BrickOrTreatContest.

One of the many VIPs who joined us for the recent red carpet, world premiere of “The LEGO® Movie 4D A New Adventure” was 10-year-old Sage Stuchell of Petoskey, Mich., making his very first visit to a LEGOLAND® theme park. Sage was one of three lucky Grand Prize winners of the #BrickOrTreatContest we sponsored with HLN’s “Morning Express with Robin Meade” cable news show last fall.

During a whirlwind visit to LEGOLAND Florida Resort, Sage and his family — dad Stephen, mom Emily and 7-year-old sister Sienna — enjoyed the theme park, a private session with our Master Model Builders, accommodations in our brand-new LEGOLAND Hotel and an invitation to be our special guests for the world premiere of the new attraction.

Sage and his family attended the world premiere of “The LEGO Movie 4D A New Adventure” alongside several kid celebrities and social media stars.

How was it? Here’s what Sage had to say after returning home:

I liked LEGOLAND® very, very much.

I could tell the first night we stepped out of the car at the hotel it was the best hotel I’ve ever been to. There was a huge LEGO® clock and a dragon all made out of LEGO. Behind the front desk was a whole wall full of minifigures and a big pit of LEGO to build in the middle of the lobby.

Sage Stuchell

Sage and his sister enjoy the “LEGO loot” from the treasure chest in their LEGOLAND Hotel room.

Then we went into the elevator. What? A disco party! We got one of Brickbeard’s pirate rooms and I thought the LEGO builds on the walls were very cool. There was a LEGO lizard, spider, cannonball, parrot, mouse and pirate artifacts. We decoded a lock and opened a treasure chest full of LEGO loot.

When I saw the LEGOLAND theme park I thought it was the most amazing place I’ve ever seen!  All the rides were awesome! My favorites were The Dragon and Coastersaurus, because they are very high and I like to be up high. There is even an Island in the Sky.

I thought Miniland was going to be smaller but it was huge! So much to see. The Star Wars battle of Geonosis was super realistic. The Darth Vader, Darth Maul and R2-D2 were life-size and very accurately built. I was very impressed!

We watched Brickbeard’s water ski show and ate Granny’s Apple Fries in the Florida sunshine. My sister loved Heartlake City and Mia’s Riding Adventure. We even got our LEGO driver’s license.

The “LEGO Movie™ 4D” premiere was my FAVORITE! There were so many awesome treats like cookies and cupcakes! I saw many of the Nickelodeon and Disney stars I see on TV every day. It made me feel very special to be part of the red carpet event.

During the movie, I loved the all “4D” effects, especially when the lemonade stand squirted us! It felt like I could touch everything, and LEGO were right in my face. I loved meeting all the LEGO characters, even Lord Risky.

I couldn’t believe all the bricks in the LEGO Master Model Builders’ workshop. It was cool to see where and how Master Model Builders work. All the hard work the designers do makes it fun to put together these amazing LEGO sets.

It’s gonna be awesome!

A while back, LEGOLAND® Florida Resort partnered with the HLN cable network’s popular talk show, “Morning Express with Robin Meade,” to sponsor a Grand Prize vacation for the family of a child who created the most impressive LEGO monster model. The #BrickOrTreatContest drew entries from all over the country, and in the end, we decided to give the Grand Prize to all three kid finalists.

One, 10-year-old Sage Stuchell of Petoskey, Mich., arrives with his family this week. Here’s what he had to say before leaving home, where today’s high temperature is a frosty 30 degrees:

I feel very excited to be going to LEGOLAND® Florida Resort.  I’ve always loved building with LEGO® and wanted to go to LEGOLAND ever since I heard about it in the LEGO Club Magazine. I look forward to meeting Emmet and all the other characters that can be found in LEGOLAND. I can’t wait to meet a LEGO Master Model Builder in the hotel workshop. One question I will have to ask is, What is the best way to create a LEGO model from an idea?

The Dragon is one of the first rides I would like to ride — it sounds super fun. I think “The LEGO® Movie™ 4D A New Adventure” is going to be awesome. LEGO is the coolest toy.

Check back on our blog for a recap of Sage’s whirlwind visit, including his trip down the red carpet for tomorrow’s invitation-only world premiere of “The LEGO® Movie™ 4D A New Adventure” and a private tour of the model shop located inside our brand-new LEGOLAND Hotel.

LEGOLAND Hotel chef cooks up creativity with local students

Three Lake Region High School students from Eagle Lake, Fla., are teaming up with three LEGOLAND® Florida Resort chefs this week to prepare an appetizer, entrée and dessert that will compete in a fundraiser for Junior Achievement of Tampa Bay, Polk District.

On Friday, Oct. 16, their creative cuisine will be featured at the 15th annual Lake Mirror Classic Auto Festival in Lakeland, Fla., during the first Culinary Cook-Off, a competition between local chefs that JA plans to make an annual event.

The nonprofit organization relies on volunteers to share their personal experiences and bring classroom curriculum to life. James Boheim, executive chef at LEGOLAND Hotel, recently was named a JA board member and says he looks forward to sharing his knowledge with students.

“At LEGOLAND Florida Resort, we’ve created a world where imagination and creativity thrive,” he said.   “Opportunities like this help us to bring those values into the community where we live.”

The Culinary Cook-Off will take place Oct. 16 from 6-9 p.m. at the historic Magnolia Building in downtown Lakeland. Advance tickets are $30 each and include tastings of all three competition categories (appetizer, entrée and dessert), plus two drink vouchers.

LEGOLAND Hotel restaurant menus go from garden to table

When guests visit our brand-new LEGOLAND Hotel, not only do they immerse themselves in the colorful world of LEGO®, they also enjoy creative food and beverages made with many fresh, organic ingredients sourced locally.

LEGOLAND Hotel Executive Chef James Boheim

Some are really local. As in right out of the hotel’s backyard.

As Executive Chef James Boheim explains, items grown in the hotel’s garden are incorporated into many dishes offered at Bricks Family Restaurant and Skyline Lounge.

“You’ve heard of farm to table?” he said. “This is yard to table.”

At LEGOLAND Hotel, Chef James and his culinary team have partnered with local farmers, horticulturalists and landscapers to design a garden that not only looks good, but tastes good too.

“It’s beautiful for landscaping but you can also eat it and prepare items with it,” he said.

On Saturday, Sept. 26, Chef James will represent LEGOLAND Florida Resort during an exclusive presentation at The Landscape Show, a private event recognized as one of the country’s top nursery and landscape trade shows.

Items grown in the LEGOLAND Hotel garden find delicious uses in the kitchens of its restaurants.

Ruby Red grapefruit grows at LEGOLAND Hotel along with a thriving garden of herbs, spices and fruit.

Drawing on the creativity of his team, he’ll demonstrate how “edible landscaping” grown in the hotel garden can beautify the property while diversifying its menus.

“We’re trying to say, ‘OK, you have this product in your yard — what do you do with it?’ ” he explained. “You can make vinegars, you can make sauces, you can do all kinds of things. Jams, jellies. More than just a salad.”

Just as LEGOLAND Florida theme park allows kids to unleash their creativity, Chef James makes it his mission to represent their imaginations in his kitchen.

“For us, it’s all about the kids,” he said. “That’s what we’re here for. If they like it, they’ll eat it.”
