Lights, camera… awesome!

This week, celebrities, media and VIPs are gathering at LEGOLAND® Florida Resort for the world premiere of “The LEGO Movie 4D A New Adventure,” a brand-new theatrical attraction that combines 3D computer animation, “4D” effects such as wind, water and fog, and the same sly humor that made the movie a worldwide blockbuster.

The theme park is rolling out the red carpet for the dazzling new attraction and has unveiled many Hollywood-style enhancements at the Wells Fargo Fun Town Theater, where the 12 ½-minute film will play several times a day starting Friday, Jan. 29.

Earlier this week, star Emmet Brickowski added an appropriately glamorous finishing touch by placing his distinctive hands and signature in cement, a time-honored show business tradition that will continue when his handprints go on permanent display outside the theater, along with those of his co-stars Wyldstyle, Benny, Unikitty, MetalBeard and shady newcomer Risky Business.

Join us Friday here on the Official LEGOLAND Florida Resort Blog for a photo-filled recap of the star-studded ceremony celebrating the fun new attraction’s debut.

It’s gonna be awesome!

A while back, LEGOLAND® Florida Resort partnered with the HLN cable network’s popular talk show, “Morning Express with Robin Meade,” to sponsor a Grand Prize vacation for the family of a child who created the most impressive LEGO monster model. The #BrickOrTreatContest drew entries from all over the country, and in the end, we decided to give the Grand Prize to all three kid finalists.

One, 10-year-old Sage Stuchell of Petoskey, Mich., arrives with his family this week. Here’s what he had to say before leaving home, where today’s high temperature is a frosty 30 degrees:

I feel very excited to be going to LEGOLAND® Florida Resort.  I’ve always loved building with LEGO® and wanted to go to LEGOLAND ever since I heard about it in the LEGO Club Magazine. I look forward to meeting Emmet and all the other characters that can be found in LEGOLAND. I can’t wait to meet a LEGO Master Model Builder in the hotel workshop. One question I will have to ask is, What is the best way to create a LEGO model from an idea?

The Dragon is one of the first rides I would like to ride — it sounds super fun. I think “The LEGO® Movie™ 4D A New Adventure” is going to be awesome. LEGO is the coolest toy.

Check back on our blog for a recap of Sage’s whirlwind visit, including his trip down the red carpet for tomorrow’s invitation-only world premiere of “The LEGO® Movie™ 4D A New Adventure” and a private tour of the model shop located inside our brand-new LEGOLAND Hotel.

And the award goes to… Emmet!

Emmet Award

A pair of giant “Emmet Award” statues now flank the entrance to the Wells Fargo Fun Town Theater.

In preparation for the world premiere of “The LEGO® Movie™ 4D A New Adventure” at LEGOLAND® Florida Resort, the attraction’s star, Emmet Brickowski, has been immortalized outside the Wells Fargo Fun Town Theater with a pair of giant, golden statues evoking the classic glitz and glamour of show business.

(Any resemblance to another famous golden award statue is purely coincidental, of course. At least that’s what our lawyer told us to say.)

The iconic “Emmet Award” figures tower more than 8 feet above the entrance plaza outside the theater, which is undergoing a dramatic transformation as it prepares to reveal what happened after the events of “The LEGO® Movie™.”

Stay tuned for more news about the attraction and several more Hollywood-style enhancements that will be unveiled at the theme park theater in the weeks leading up to its gala grand opening.   “The LEGO Movie 4D A New Adventure” opens Friday, Jan. 29.

Cypress Gardens celebrates 80 years of nature’s splendor

Dick Pope Sr. was a man with a vision. Where others saw swampland, he imagined a tropical wonderland unparalleled as a showcase of the world’s natural beauty.

On a marshy tract of land adjacent to Polk County’s placid Lake Eloise, he created Cypress Gardens, a color-saturated paradise of exotic flowers, plants and trees Pope imported from globe-trotting travels with his wife, Julie.

Dedicated by Florida’s governor in January 1935, the gardens formally opened Jan. 2, 1936, with visitors paying 25 cents apiece to tour its winding, cypress-block pathways. Over the years that followed, Cypress Gardens drew millions of visitors to Florida for its tranquil splendor and dazzling water ski shows, among them movie stars, TV legends, beauty queens, royalty and world-class athletes.

Today, eight decades later, kids will delight in discovering the historic botanical gardens’ many charms around every tree-shaded corner, from the famous gazebo to the mammoth banyan tree. All beautifully preserved and maintained by the talented horticulturalists of LEGOLAND® Florida Resort for the enjoyment of children for generations to come.

Here are a few scenes captured during a recent visit on a quiet afternoon:

Cypress Gardens

The famous gazebo remains the centerpiece of the sprawling gardens. During Cypress Gardens’ heyday, it was the site of hundreds of weddings each year.

Cypress Gardens

In a nod to the many costumed young women who greeted Cypress Gardens guests for decades, a Southern belle made entirely of LEGO® sits near the iconic gazebo.

Cypress Gardens

Planted by Dick Pope Sr. in the 1930s, the enormous banyan tree remains a breathtaking sight decades later.

Cypress Gardens

Millions of guests from around the world have marveled at the legendary banyan tree, imported from India and still spreading its vertical roots.

Scenes of quiet tranquility await discovery throughout Cypress Gardens, maintained with tender care by the talented horticulturalists of LEGOLAND Florida Resort.

Cypress Gardens

Constructed in 1972, the Oriental Gardens section features a 12-foot statue of the Great Buddha of Kamakura, one of the most well-known monuments in Japan.

Brilliant colors abound within the gardens, like the flame-hued croton plant native to Southeast Asia.
