We interviewed our Water Park Operations Manager to get the inside scoop on what it takes to be a LEGOLAND® lifeguard.
What does it take to be a lifeguard at LEGOLAND Water Park?
As for Lifeguard Training, we utilize the American Red Cross Lifeguard Training program for all of our lifeguards. The training is about a 25-30 hour course and is renewed every 2 years.
What skills to you need to become a lifeguard?
Our lifeguards are certified in Lifeguard skills, Water Park skills, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, and First Aid. All lifeguards are required to swim 300 yards, a timed brick retrieval, and tread water for 2 minutes prior to attending the lifeguard training.
What do you have to do to maintain your lifeguard certification?
To maintain the Lifeguard certification throughout the year, our lifeguards are required to attend 4 hours of in-service training per month during our operating season. Before our guards can be put in position they also have to complete the LEGOLAND Florida Attractions training for all 6 Water Park attractions, Risk Assessment training, and General Operating procedures training. This is an additional 8 hours of training on top of the Lifeguard Training course.
What is so special about LEGOLAND Water Park?
LEGOLAND Water Park features more than four million LEGO® bricks, while offering interactive water play fun for the entire family. It is specifically designed for families with children ages two to twelve. Among other attractions you can build your own LEGO creation as you float along the Build-a-Raft River, cool off in the LEGO Wave Pool or race with your friends and family down several water slides!
What is your favorite part of the Water Park?
That’s a tough question. There is something for every age: Kids love the Joker Soaker Area, they can splash in a fun, interactive playground with various lengths, heights and types of slides that offer something different for everyone. Toddlers will rule at the DUPLO® Splash Safari – it is a water play area with shorter slides and interactive, larger-than-life DUPLO creatures. This area is for children age 5 and under. Thrill seekers of the family should not miss Splash Out. You can ascend the tallest point of the Water Park and choose from one of three unique slides and speed down a 60-foot drop and “splash out” into the water below. That’s a lot of fun and even the parents can have a perfect time, sliding down the Twin Chasers with their kiddos.
